Beneficial Nematodes
Beneficial Nematodes
What are beneficial nematodes, and why use them? Beneficial nematodes are, in short, our pest control. These naturally occurring microscopic organisms, parasitize and kill any pests that may have hunkered down in our soil during the winter, waiting to feed on our plants. They are mixed in with water at a certain consistency, and sprayed on. Once in the soil they begin going after larvae and pupal staged insects, have also been known to attack full sized adults, and they will multiply on their own. We will apply them again later in the year to take care of insects that emerge in the fall. So what about the good bugs? Thankfully, beneficial insects such as ladybugs, bees and butterflies, don't live in the soil over the winter, so they are safe from being attacked.
